Grade 1/2 Literacy Group
Early primary school-aged children may have difficulty learning to read and write because of poor processing of speech sounds. Poor phonological processing can cause difficulty when learning what sounds letters say. This might be displayed as:
- difficulty remembering what letters go with which sound when spelling
- difficulty sounding out unfamiliar words when reading
- difficulty remembering the ‘sound shape’ of a word read on a previous page, leading to having to sound it out again.
Speech pathologists are specially trained to help cement these associations for children. During the first week of the September school holidays, Speaking of Learning… will be running a literacy group for grade 1 and 2 students at our clinic on Rooks Rd.
Sessions will run from 10-11.30am on Monday 22nd - Thursday 25th September, and will involve fun activities in a group setting that can help improve your child's emerging literacy skills.
